Product Care

Removable Brand/Care Product Labels

For your absolute comfort, our Knot Me Good brand and care label is easily removed!

Each brand label provides fabric types used in each product, along with our recommended ‘dry clean only’ care instruction. We are proud to show ‘Made In USA’ on each label, as every product is hand made in Dallas, Texas!

Every bow tie and ascot/cravat has this removable label sewn in place with a very loose stitch at the end of the neckband. Simply pull the loose label end toward the stitched label end as if you’re ‘peeling’ it off! Flip over to the front of the neckband and remove the small, loose piece of thread, if it had not already fell off when peeling the label back.

(Don’t worry about the few, very small holes left in the silk, but please don’t try to rub them closed - as you pull and adjust to tie the piece, the manipulation will allow the fine weave of the fabric to work its way back to fill them.)

Silk*

Because the silk we use at KMG is 100% pure mulberry silk, we highly recommend to dry clean only.

Velvet*

The velvet fabric used in some of our products at KMG is made of 100% polyester.

These products include our Velvet bow ties which are made with a reversible side made of 100% silk. With this in mind, we recommend to dry clean only.

  • Brushing Velvet

Brushing the velvet after each use and/or cleaning will remove any dirt or dust buildup and keep the rich appearance and prevent matting or balding of the pile.

Use a velvet brush and brush the piece in short lengths going with the grain of the pile (the direction in which the threads lay flat,) then brush the full length at once to get a silky rich look to your bow tie!

Lightly brush against the grain of the pile to showcase the beautiful texture in your velvet tie.

*It is best to store your bow tie with the pile brushed down to prevent matting.

Ironing/Pressing**

Although your bow tie should be looking perfectly new, without wrinkles or waviness after the recommended dry cleaning, we are aware that our customers may want to press the piece to wear again before sending it to the cleaners.

*If you do want to use the piece more than once before dry cleaning, just leave it tied, unclasp it when you take it off and store it in its original box! But if you must press it for any reason, please follow these great tips!

To press the bow tie:

Between dry cleanings and only if needed, we recommend this method of ironing/pressing not just for our bow ties but for any of our products, including ascots, scarves and pocket squares.

  • Use an iron with a clean heating plate.

  • Add new distilled water to the iron.

  • Set the iron to SILK setting with steam. If your iron does not have this setting then the NYLON or lowest temperature setting will be the next best option.

  • Untie and detach the two bow tie sections.

  • Concentrating on one of the two sections of the tie at a time, lay the piece out fully on a padded ironing board with the either side facing up. If pressing a KMG velvet tie, lay the velvet side down with the silk side up.

  • Place a thin clean piece of cotton fabric (a t-shirt or something similar) over the bow tie section.

  • Once the iron setting is ready, lightly press a small section of the cloth covered tie, raise the iron to hover about a 1-2” above the cloth and mist with a couple of quick bursts of steam, then lightly press back down in the tie. Hold the bow tie shape without stretching it as you steam and press, but keep your fingers back far enough for safety. (We don’t want you to burn yourself!)

  • Repeat this until each section of the bow tie is pressed.

  • Remove the cloth covering and, if needed, use the tip of the iron directly to the silk, quickly and lightly to press out any wrinkles. Do not hold the iron directly on the silk (or velvet) in place for any length of time. Doing so may burn the silk.

  • Take care not to press over the stainless steel hardware, as doing so may scratch or cause damage to either the bow tie hardware or heat plate of the iron.

*If you prefer to consult with your dry cleaner or laundry service for recommendations, please note that KMG does not take responsibility for outside recommendations or other care methods beyond those stated as recommended.

**KMG does not take responsibility for damages to product caused by unmaintained or damaged ironing or pressing equipment, water/steam stains, scorched or burnt fabric due to improper iron temperature settings or other factors out of our control.
